MSU Trustee Joel Ferguson has announced he will not seek another term on the MSU Board of Trustees, citing a wish to concentrate on his development projects underway across the state of Michigan. Mr. Ferguson is a successful developer, politician, businessman, educator and philanthropist.

Ferguson had an illustrious career at MSU. He was selected by his colleagues who know him best, six times to serve as Chairperson of the MSU Board of Trustees and five times as Vice-Chair. A few of his recognized accomplishments include his fight for affordable tuition to ensure that higher education remains within reach for every student; his support on the importance of access to all, the value of diversity and equal opportunities for all; his efforts to ensure continued success for MSU along with the safety, security and accountability of all Spartans. He has always been a champion in his support of Union Labor at MSU and making sure that their rights were protected.

He was the first African American to be elected to Lansing City Council. He ran Jesse Jackson’s 1988 campaign which won him the Presidential primary in Michigan.

“In addition to focusing on my development projects, I am actively supporting efforts to elect Democrats. In particular Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Gary Peters, Elisa Slotkin and the candidate for MSU Trustee, Reina Vassar. I know she’ll be a great asset for MSU.”, said Joel Ferguson.

Ferguson recently donated the new headquarter facilities for the Ingham County Democratic Party, providing a home base locally and helping to create the strongest voter turnout possible in one of the most important elections ever. His lifelong commitment of supporting Democrats continues locally, statewide and on a national level.

He said he will continue to remain active in supporting Michigan State University and as always, he will remain a proud SPARTAN forever!
