EASTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 32-year-old Ionia man was arrested by state police Thursday in the shooting of a Portland man at a residence in Easton Township west of Ionia.

Michigan State Police troopers responded to calls on a shooting a little after 11 a.m.Thursday on Potters Road and found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back. He was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Ionia and is expected to recover. The Ionia County Sheriff’s Department helped out at the scene.

The suspect had fled but was located Thursday afternoon in Kentwood in a traffic stop and arrested by members of the West Michigan Fugitive Task Force, the MSP Emergency Support Team, and an MSP K9 unit.

Investigators found that the shooting took place when the two men got into an argument.

The suspect is facing various assault and firearms charges.
