IONIA, Mich. — Ionia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery Monday at the Admiral Station located at 2525 S. State Road.
A caller had reported that a man was inside the store and had stated his intent to rob the store, according to a news release.
A weapon had not been seen or implied directly.
Police secured the man upon arriving at the store, but deputies confirmed that the man was not armed and did not intend to rob the store.
The confusion had been due to an irate customer and another customer overhearing an unintended statement, Ionia County police said.
No weapon was found nor anything taken from the store.
The man was released at the scene.
