WYOMING, Mich. — A local catering company is adapting after all of their events were canceled by serving individual meals.

Distinctive Catering says they had to shut down their entire operation after having to cancel or reschedule about 85 events due to the coronavirus.

"It really did a 180 from two weeks ago, up until now, it was completely abrupt," said Madeline Doyle, their bar sales coordinator. "Usually March is when we're kind of starting to get into our busy season with the summer events coming up. And it's just been Yeah, it's definitely been an adjustment with no business."

Customers can order things like beef brisket, pork ribs, smoked chicken in a terminal up front before driving around back to pick up their food. Catering director Brian Kieda says this is important to comply with restaurant regulations.

"...We've stepped up our sanitation, you know, a lot higher than we already do, which we have a great reputation, but we're making sure everything is sanitized," Kieda said.

They say the money they earn doing this is not for profit, but it is to help their employees.

"Right next to our clients, our staff is our number one priority. A lot of them, this is their only source of income, and it's definitely a huge change for them to be sitting here idle and not have much to do," Doyle said.

Kieda says the operation will help set up a fund for their employees for things like bills and food.

Doyle says so far things are off to a good start.

"Yesterday was our first day and I heard it went really well. It's nice to get kind of the word out there and we know a lot of people in the neighborhood who are stopping by so so far, so good."
