GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Versiti Blood Center used Valentine’s Day and ice cream as a fun opportunity for people to learn their blood type and learn about donating.
The organization held the event at Love’s Ice Cream and offered anyone who went through the 15-minute test a free scoop of ice cream. Liz Collver with the blood center says while there are about eight main blood types, there are about 30 subtypes beneath that, which were determined in the test.
“So blood donation is really important because we’re trying to help patients that might have some specialized needs,” Collver said. “So, the more we can help people know about their blood type, the more we can help patients in the local hospitals we serve.”
Versiti is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Knickerbocker on Bridge Street.
