BYRON CENTER, Mich. — The homeless community in Grand Rapids will soon be a lot warmer thanks to a young brother and sister who collected items Saturday,
Josephine 'Jojo' Gurd, 8, and her younger brother Hudson, 7, held a Winter Survival Drive for the homeless on Saturday in Byron Center to give back to those who may be without a home this winter.
The two kids, along with their friends and parents, collected items like coats, boots, hats, gloves, sleeping pads & bags and warm blankets.
The kids were able to collect enough winter gear to fill a Salvation Army van from floor to ceiling and from front passenger seat to rear door.
"We had a amazing outpouring of support from West Michigan and beyond," said their father Travis Gurd. "We should be proud of the people who live here," he said.
The items will be donated to Dégagé Ministries on Tuesday.
