Side streets remain last priority for road crews working to clear major streets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Our first major snowfall event of the season has caused roadways to be covered with several inches of snow Friday and the Arctic Air is moving in.

While many highways and major roadways are clear, neighborhood side streets are among the last priority for local road commissions as the main roads are more important.

In Grand Rapids' Alger Heights neighborhood, our crew measured several inches of snowfall that was not easy to shovel.

The City of Grand Rapids is also reminding residents to take steps over the next week to avoid frozen pipes.
