GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Those looking for collective entertainment in an era of social distancing will soon have another option in Grand Rapids.

Studio C’s Celebration Cinema theatres will be launching Pop-up Drive-ins! Movies this Friday in the Grand Rapids North theatre and Saturday in the parking lot of the theatre in Lansing, the company announced Thursday.

The movies will cost $30 per car, and guests can choose to watch either inside their car or set up “camp” nearby, Celebration Cinema said. Sound will be available through an FM radio signal.

Marvel’s “Black Panther” will be the opening week’s movie. Celebration Cinema expects to show multiple movies per week in coming weeks.

Large shipping containers stacked on top of each other will form giant screens.

Celebration Cinema has had a similar setup in Muskegon, which organizers say has been “enormously popular” this summer.

“Our community is hungry for opportunities to gather in a safe way,” a news release says. “Outdoor movies are a memorable experience.”

Tickets may be pre-purchased at celebrationcinema.com.
