Families residing around Buchanan Elementary can now enjoy a renovated schoolyard complete with an outdoor classroom space.
Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and the City of Grand Rapids say it's a way to help kids connect with nature.
“Creating wonderful outdoor spaces is essential to being a healthy city that offers the opportunity for a high quality of life for everyone,” Bliss said. “This is a fantastic project that will help educate and keep our children physically active in unique and fun ways. It is a testament to what can be done when community partners come together to build and enhance a park for generations to come.”
Bliss previously mentioned the Plaster Creek Family Project in her state of the city address.
“The new outdoor classroom gives students and teachers the opportunity to broaden their educational experience through exploration of our natural world,” GRPS Superintendent Leadriane Roby said. “The benefits of green schoolyards go well beyond serving students. The spaces provide countless benefits to the health and wellness of the community and environment.”
