GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A pedestrian on the sidewalk died after a two-car accident shortly after midnight.

At 12:18 a.m. Saturday, the Grand Rapids Police Department responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck at Burton Street and South Division. The investigation showed that a car was westbound on Burton and proceeded through the green light at Division when a car that was southbound on Division ran the red light and hit the westbound car.

The impact pushed the westbound car up onto the southwest corner of the intersection, where it hit a pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's name is being withheld until relatives are notified.

The driver of the Westbound car was transported to the hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A witness said several individuals exited the southbound car and left the scene in another vehicle. The vehicle involved in the crash was left at the scene but none of the occupants has been located or identified.
