GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Opening statements will begin Tuesday morning for the father of Jared Chance, charged with allegedly helping his son cover up the murder of a West Michigan woman.
We will likely be hearing from the defendant himself along with witnesses and investigators who worked the case involving Jared Chance, who is accused of murdering and dismembering 31-year-old Ashley Young.
He was found guilty of second degree murder, mutilating a dead body, concealing a death and three counts of tampering with evidence back in September of 2019.
James Chance and his wife Barbara were also charged with lying to investigators and helping their son cover up the crime.
On Monday, Barbara Chance pleaded no contest meaning she won't even being going to trial and will likely spend a year or less in jail. She will be sentenced next month.
But that is not the case for James Chance, who maintained his plea stating he is not guilty and will head to trial. He is also a former Illinois police officer.
Young disappeared back in November of 2018 and was last seen with chance at a Grand Rapids bar.
To this day, investigators have still not been able to locate all her remains.
Their investigation sent police to the murderer`s parents home in Holland where a saw with Young's DNA was found underneath their couch.
Opening statements begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
