GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Michigan State Police cruiser was hit Thursday while the trooper was handling a separate crash in Grand Rapids.

It happened around noon on westbound I-96 near Butterworth Avenue.

MSP says a woman was driving too fast for the conditions, lost control and hit the driver’s side of the cruiser. The trooper wasn’t in the vehicle at the time and wasn’t hurt in the crash.

Authorities say the crash was easily avoidable and is another reminder for drivers to slow down on ice and snow.
