GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer Inc. has sent out an e-mail to customers reminding them that they must wear facial coverings while in the stores.
On Friday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an Executive Order requiring masks inside all businesses and ordering the businesses to enforce that policy, under penalty of fines.
Meijer has previously had signs posted on doors at its stores saying that masks are required, but has not enforced the policy.
Saturday morning, the company sent the following e-mail out to customers:
"Attention Meijer Customer,
As required by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, all Meijer customers must now wear a face covering or face mask when shopping at any Meijer store or Meijer Express station in Michigan. We understand that some customers have medical conditions that prevent them from wearing face coverings, and we will follow the Governor’s latest order on who is exempt from this requirement. We also encourage customers to consider using Meijer Home Delivery or Curbside pick-up as options for their shopping needs."
