GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man who was repeatedly punched by a Grand Rapids police officer during his arrest will not serve jail time for resisting police.

Bronquel Brown, who agreed to a $125,000 settlement with the city, was sentenced Tuesday to pay $1,125 in fines and costs after he pleaded guilty to resisting and obstructing.

Brown was arrested in March during a traffic stop near California Street and National Avenue NW. Body camera footage showed brown being punched over 30 times after police say he didn’t comply with their commands.

The officer who hit Brown, Drew Rau, has since been fired. The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case but ultimately declined to file charges.
