GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This year's Irish on Ionia has officially been canceled.

The annual St. Patrick's Day street party in downtown Grand Rapids was scheduled for March 14 and later postponed amid the coronavirus outbreak.

BarFly Events made "the difficult decision" to cancel the event "after careful consideration and the advice of local and state officials," according to a post today on the event's Facebook page.

"Our first priority is to ensure the safety of our staff and guests during these restricted times," the post says.

BarFly Events plans to hold Irish on Ionia's 10-year celebration "under luckier circumstances" on March 13, 2021.

BarFly says tickets purchased through Eventbrite as of March 28 have been "mass refunded."

People who purchased their ticket at HopCat, Stella's or Grand Rapids Brewing Co. will receive a "trade-in" refund at those locations when they're re-opened for full service.
