GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly breaking into a home and stabbing an 11-year-old boy in the face multiple times.

Grand Rapids police were called around 3 a.m. to a home invasion on Sheffield Street near Kensington Avenue where a boy was assaulted by an intruder. The boy was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for multiple stab wounds to the face. His injuries aren't considered to be life-threatening.

About 30 minutes later, investigators found the suspect near the intersection of Fulton Street and Gold Avenue and took him into custody. The suspect, 21-year-old Denny Mcnees, is charged with assault with intent to murder and first-degree home invasion.

Police say they are confident it was a random act and the man didn’t have any prior connection to the scene of the crime.

Anyone with information on the break-in and assault is asked to call Grand Rapids police at 616-456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
