GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids is not extending a now-expired curfew, as of this afternoon.

Several city commissioners opposed extending the curfew during a meeting today.

After hearing from all the commissioners, Mayor Rosalynn Bliss said she will not act unilaterally and believes the decision should a democratic one.

"It's clear that we will not be moving forward with extending the curfew or declaration of emergency," Bliss said this afternoon.

Earlier, City Manager Mark Washington asked the City Commission to consider extending the curfew through June 7.

The National Guard is "assessing its demobilization," and law and order has been established, according to Washington in a tweet by the city this morning.

Washington said the National Guard will begin demobilizing today if nothing else happens.

However, he'd like to extend the curfew.

The commission considered the matter today during its Committee of the Whole meeting.
