GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The driver of a semi says he was lucky to escape injury after losing control and flipping his rig onto its side early Tuesday.
It happened around 3 a.m. on the ramp from eastbound 196 to northbound US-131. The ramp was closed for several hours.
Crews worked to clear the crash until about 8:10 a.m.
The semi driver told our crew on the scene he was not injured in the crash and says he took the curve too fast.
We're told there were 20-30,000 lbs. of sugar beets in the trailer that they had to offload before clearing the ramp.
