Boy hospitalized after drive-by shooting in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Monday evening, a 12-year-old boy was hospitalized after a drive-by shooting in Grand Rapids.

At 6:29 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the area of Calvin Avenue Southeast and Adams Street Southeast, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department this morning.

GRPD said a vehicle drove by the boy and fired rounds at him.

The boy was shot in the leg and taken to Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. His are injuries were considered non-life threatening.

GRPD believes the shooting might have stemmed from an earlier altercation with another male.

The department's Major Crimes Team has been notified, and the shooting is under investigation.
