Boy with cancer to be named honorary player with Davenport University men's basketball team

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Davenport University Men's Basketball team will add a special new member Friday during an exclusive draft day event.

5-year-old Brantley Smith, of Byron Center, will be named a honorary player and become an official Panther as he continues his battle with Leukemia.

Brantley, along with his family joined us ahead of the event to talk about what this means to them.

The project is all thanks to the national nonprofit Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of team, along with the Davenport University Men’s Basketball Team.

The celebration is set to happen Friday at the Student Center, 6191 Kraft Avenue in Grand Rapids.
