2 suspects in custody in Grand Rapids homicide case

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two suspects are in custody in a homicide case on Grand Rapids' northeast side.

The case involves a shooting on April 22 at 6:45 p.m. that left one person dead and sent one person to a hospital.

Robert Artevious Kelly Jr., 24, and Lamar Marquis Holman, 28, are now being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility and charged with multiple counts in the homicide case, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department today.

The GRPD said investigators presented the case to the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office, and warrants were sworn in 61st District Court.

The two defendants are each facing four felony counts: homicide – felony murder; assault with intent to murder; robbery – armed; and weapons – felony firearm.

They'll be arraigned in the 61st District Court.

The fatal shooting victim has been identified as Earnest Griffin, 53, of Grand Rapids.

An autopsy by the Kent County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Initially, officers were dispatched to the hospital for an apparent gunshot victim. After an investigation, information led them to the 800th block of Carrier Creek Blvd. NE.

There, police discovered a second victim after checking the residents of an apartment building.

Medical personnel were called to the location, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
