2 injured in shooting on Grand Rapids' SE side

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Police say two people were injured in a shooting on the city's southeast side early Monday morning.

It happened around 4:10 a.m. on Umatilla Street near Union.

Police say two people were sitting in a car when someone opened fire from an unknown location.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was hit in the arm. His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was hit in the head.

Police say they drove themselves to the fire station on South Division for help.

Both are expected to survive.

Police say several casings were located near the scene but no information about a suspect is available.
