Former Grand Rapids mayor appointed to Ferris State University Board of Trustees

LANSING, Mich. — Former Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell has been appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to Ferris State University’s Board of Trustees, a news release said Monday.

Heartwell currently serves as a member of the Great Lakes Water Quality Board, Muskegon River Watershed Assembly, Newaygo Economic Development Corporation, Environmental Law and Policy Center Michigan Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Newaygo and for Garfield Township.

His term will begin Jan. 1 and lasts until Dec. 31, 2028.

Ronald E. Snead, Sr., of Stanwood, was also appointed to the university’s Board of Trustees.

Whitmer also appointed two new members to Grand Valley State University’s board: Mikyia S. Aaron, of Taylor, and Noreen K. Myers, of East Grand Rapids.

Aaron is the general counsel and external business affairs director for the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA!) Local 1191.

Myers is an attorney and the owner of Noreen K. Myers, PLC.

She currently serves as a trustee of the GVSU Foundation, as a member of the advisory council for the GVSU Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies and chairs their Common Ground Initiative, and is a former member and chair of the Board of Trustees.
