NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Emergency responders arrived on the scene of a crash near Pucker Street on M-51 this morning, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say a woman was found lying on the road, adding she was struck by a vehicle. We’re told she was taken to Spectrum/Lakeland Hospital where she later died.
Berrien County police say they have identified the victim as Veronica Gary, 56, from Dowagiac.
Upon further investigation, it was discerned that Gary had encountered mechanical issues with her car, according to police, who say her car’s tire had dislodged from the vehicle and rolled across the road. We’re told she was struck as she was retrieving the tire.
The incident is currently under investigation. The name of the other driver has not yet been released.
