HASTINGS, Mich. — Barry County has its first presumptive positive case of COVID-19.

The Barry-Eaton District Health Department says a 45-year-old man with no travel history has tested positive for the virus. Health officials will contact people who have been in close contact with the man and monitor them for symptoms.

The department didn't name any public low-risk exposure locations. People are encouraged to act as if the virus may be present when in a public place.

Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, which include fever, cough and shortness of breath, is asked to self-isolate for two weeks to avoid exposing others. Symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as two weeks after exposure to the virus.

As of Friday, Michigan had more than 500 positive cases of coronavirus and three deaths. All the deaths happened in Detroit or elsewhere in Wayne County.
