10-year-old boy dies after being run over

BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Deputies said a 10-year-old boy from Fremont has died after he was run over by a pickup.

Deputies from the Newaygo County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a pickup-on-pedestrian crash in Bridgetown Township, at S Green Ave. near W. 104th St., on April 3 at about 7:25 p.m., according to the sheriff's office this morning.

The sheriff's office said deputies found a pickup that was "grading a driveway when it ran over" the child.

The driver is a 20-year-old male from Fremont, according to the sheriff's office. He was uninjured.

The boy was airlifted to Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

He later died from his injuries.

The sheriff's office said the accident "remains under investigation."

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Fremont Police Department, Fremont Fire Department and Life EMS.
