LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) —

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is ordering all hair salons, nail salons, spas, tattoo shops and more closed amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-20 on Saturday which orders all non-essential personal care services must temporarily close.

Those services include hair, nail, tanning, massage, spa, tattoo, body art and piercing services, and similar services that require individuals to be within 6 feet of each other.

The closure will take effect Sunday at 9 a.m. and continue until at least April 13 at 11:59 p.m. It follows other executive orders which have temporarily closed restaurants and bars, movie theatres, and more during the outbreak

"COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge to our way of life as Michiganders," Whitmer said in a release. "That's why we are making decisions based on science and facts to protect public health and keep people safe. I know these changes will be hard, but they are temporary, and they are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and help save lives."
