Michigan will follow the new CDC guidelines on the recommended length of quarantine after COVID-19 exposure, MDHHS Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said Thursday.

Earlier this week, the CDC shortened the recommended length of quarantine to 10 days, down from 14 days. The CDC also said the quarantine could go to 7 days with a negative test, but the state said they wouldn't follow those guidelines.

Those guidelines are for anyone who has come into contact with someone infected with the coronavirus.

While the incubation period was thought to be 14 days, the CDC said most people become infectious and have symptoms about 4-5 days after exposure.
