LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) — Parents, student-athletes and coaches are planning to gather at the state Capitol Friday, pushing for the restart of high school sports.

Restrictions have been placed on sports activities due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Organizers say the rally is "being held to encourage Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the MDHHS to get kids back to school and back in sports/activities because their mental health matters!"

The rally is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11 from 3-5 p.m. on the front lawn of the capitol.

The #LetThemPlay organization started as a Facebook group called "Let Michigan High School Football Play." They rallied back in August – bringing out a crowd of nearly 800 supporters – after high school sports were put on pause. The group has 19,000 members statewide.
