John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids was scheduled to open to members on May 29 and to the public on May 30.

That won’t happen.

In a statement, zoo officials pointed to “at times ambiguous information regarding COVID-19" for the reason the zoo will remain closed.

The zoo has plans in place to allow for residents to safely enjoy the zoo: limiting the number of guests allowed in the zoo at one time, closure of indoor facilities and experiences, availability of hand sanitizer, and additional cleaning processes.

The zoo continues to provide online experiences for families through videos and social media channels.

The zoo has not announced a firm reopening date.
