BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ferris State University is closing all residence halls on campus as it offers online classes to students during the coronavirus outbreak.

The closures include Ferris' East Campus Suites and apartments, except family units, and are effective March 22 at 5 p.m., according to the university today.

Ferris will offer remote instruction through June 1.

Ferris said it will "ensure" international students and students with "highly exceptional housing needs" have a place to stay.

There are about 400 students currently on campus.

The university also canceled all "traditional" spring commencement and related ceremonies, including for the Kendall College of Art and Design.
