Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan surpass 96,000

MICHIGAN — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 96,024.

The number of cases increased 953 from yesterday, when there were 95,071 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon.

Yesterday, the state reported 419 new cases.

The death total has also increased by 11, as the state says there have been 6,389 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

Yesterday, the state reported 10 new deaths.

Statewide, 67,778 people have recovered from the virus as of Aug. 14. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,655,994 cases, and there have been 176,050 deaths — while 1,965,056 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
