33,966 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 33,966.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 999 from yesterday, when there were 32,967 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 967 new cases.

The state says there have been 2,813 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 113 from yesterday, when there were 2,700 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 232 new deaths.

Statewide, 3,237 people have recovered from the virus as of April 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 842,319 cases, and there have been 46,399 deaths — while 77,018 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
