85,429 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 85,429.

The number of cases increased 722 from yesterday, when there were 84,707 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 657 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,247 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 26 from yesterday, when there were 6,221 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 2 new deaths.

Statewide, 60,022 people have recovered from the virus as of July 31. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 4,854,690 cases, and there have been 159,433 deaths — while 1,577,851 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
