60,829 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 60,829.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 211 from yesterday, when there were 60,618 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 225 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,823 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 5 from yesterday, when there were 5,818 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 26 new deaths.

Statewide, 44,964 people have recovered from the virus as of June 12. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,205,307 cases, and there have been 118,758 deaths — while 599,115 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
