59,990 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 59,990.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 189 from yesterday, when there were 59,801 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 180 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,770 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 3 from yesterday, when there were 5,767 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 8 new deaths.

Statewide, 44,964 people have recovered from the virus as of June 14. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,088,896 cases, and there have been 115,619 deaths — while 556,606 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
