58,749 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 58,749.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 224 from yesterday, when there were 58,525 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 284 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,652 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 36 from yesterday, when there were 5,615 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 20 new deaths.

Statewide, 42,041 people have recovered from the virus as of June 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,909,077 cases, and there have been 109,497 deaths — while 491,706 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
