58,525 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 58,525.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 284 from yesterday, when there were 58,241 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 206 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,615 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 20 from yesterday, when there were 5,595 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 25 new deaths.

Statewide, 38,099 people have recovered from the virus as of May 29. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,886,555 cases, and there have been 108,768 deaths — while 485,002 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
