56,884 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 56,884.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 263 from yesterday, when there were 56,621 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 607 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,463 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 57 from yesterday, when there were 5,406 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 34 new deaths.

Statewide, 38,099 people have recovered from the virus as of May 29. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,759,725 cases, and there have been 103,389 deaths — while 406,446 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
