46,326 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 46,326.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 680 from yesterday, when there were 45,646 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 592 new cases.

The state says there have been 4,393 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 50 from yesterday, when there were 4,343 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 93 new deaths.

Statewide, 15,659 people have recovered from the virus as of May 1. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,271,775 cases, and there have been 76,368 deaths — while 195,036 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
