LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 43,207.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 851 from yesterday, when there were 42,356 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 977 new cases.

The state says there have been 4,020 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 154 from yesterday, when there were 3,866 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 77 new deaths.

Statewide, 15,659 people have recovered from the virus as of May 1. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,121,414 cases, and there have been 65,416 deaths — while 164,015 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
