42,356 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 42,356.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 977 from yesterday, when there were 41,379 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 980 new cases.

The state says there have been 3,866 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 77 from yesterday, when there were 3,789 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 119 new deaths.

Statewide, 8,342 people have recovered from the virus as of April 24. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,082,411 cases, and there have been 63,127 deaths — while 159,663 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
