36,641 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 36,641.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 1,350 from yesterday, when there were 35,291 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 1,325 new cases.

The state says there have been 3,085 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 108 from yesterday, when there were 2,977 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 164 new deaths.

Statewide, 3,237 people have recovered from the virus as of April 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 884,004 cases, and there have been 50,360 deaths — while 81,338 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
