32,000 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 32,000.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 576 from yesterday, when there were 31,424 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 633 new cases.

The state says there have been 2,468 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 77 from yesterday, when there were 2,391 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 83 new deaths.
Statewide, 3,237 people have recovered from the virus as of April 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 766,664 cases, and there have been 40,931 deaths — while 71,581 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
