MILTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Deputies with the Cass County sheriff office have arrested a fugitive and a woman after holding a child hostage and leading police and sheriff deputies on an hours-long standoff.

It started around 1:30 Wednesday at a home on Redfield Street in Milton Township of Cass County.

We're told police went to the home to locate a parole absconder from LaPorte County, Indiana.

The fugitive was wanted to robbery that resulted in serious bodily injury and failure to appear in court.

When police approached the fugitive, a woman and a young child were inside the home and the fugitive allegedly brandished a firearm to one of the responding sheriff deputies.

With the help of other law enforcement, the house was surrounded and negotiators were brought it.

After nearly nine hours, the child was released safely from the home.

It was until 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning that the tactical team ended up going in through a garage door of the home and got both the fugitive and the woman to come out.

Both are now facing criminal charges in both Cass County and LaPorte County, Indiana.
