College Hunks holding Give Back furniture sale
College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Kalamazoo is opening its warehouse doors for its annual Give Back event this Saturday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.
Families can grab one free item from a collection of gently-used furniture and household goods including couches, beds, dressers, and dining tables, all rescued from the company's removal services instead of heading to the landfill. It is first come, first served, so bring a vehicle big enough to haul your pick, and the College Hunks will help load it up.
No registration is needed. It takes place at the warehouse's location at 2927 Millcork Street.
Robinettes' 2026 corn maze themed Dolly Parton
Last year it was a maze honoring La Grande Vitesse, the iconic sculpture in Calder Plaza; the year before that it was a Peanuts and Charlie Brown themed maze; this year the wait is over for the theme for Robinettes' corn maze!
This year's theme is one of twenty across the country honoring Dolly Parton and her imagination library. The country music-themed maze opens September 1. Tickets are just over $10 and a portion of every sale supports Early Bird Books, the local nonprofit that runs Dully Parton's Imagination Library here in West Michigan.

The Rapid wins award for Early Childcare Center impact
The Rapid just won a statewide innovation award for a creative fix to two big problems at once: transportation and childcare. The transit agency's new Early Childhood Center, tucked inside Central Station in downtown Grand Rapids, just earned a 2026 Michigan Transit Impact Award as the first facility of its kind in the state!
The 12,000 square foot center can serve up to 100 children from infancy through age five, letting parents combine drop-off with their daily commute in one trip. It was built through a four-year partnership between The Rapid, the YMCA, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Head Start, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
It welcomes its first families in early September.
Kelloggs and Post cereal sale returns
W.K. Kellogg and Post Consumer brands are teaming up again for their annual cereal sale. Each company is donating 5,000 boxes to sell for just $2 a piece with no purchase limit.
It happens this Wednesday at Full Blast in Battle Creek from 4 to 6 P.M. Proceeds benefit United Way of South Central Michigan and South Michigan Food Bank, and the past three sales have raised over $42,000 for the community.
Organizers say to bring your own bags or boxes to haul your haul home.
New exhibit at Binder Park Zoo
Binder Park Zoo has unveiled a brand-new exhibit, "Msaga Shamba", meaning "Miller Farm". It replaces the former Forest Farm with an immersive, African-inspired experience designed to connect guests with wildlife and conservation.
Visitors are greeted by blue duikers right at the entrance, then get an up-close look at cheetahs and a serval, a species new to the zoo. The space also includes an education pavilion for hands-on learning and overnight adventure programs including play areas for kids.
The project was made possible through generous donors including naming donor Patricia "Patty" Miller's family.
