While the curtain has been closed for the past few months at the Grand Rapids Ballet because of the pandemic, the dancing company has been finding new ways to show their art-form to the community. The Grand Rapids Ballet is introducing their ground-breaking 2020-21 season, Second Act, featuring a variety of different programs, add-ons, bonus programming, exclusive content, and more.

Business as (un)Usual
February 12-14

"The critically acclaimed first program of 2020|21 season makes a triumphant return just in time for an (un)conventional Valentine’s Day weekend. Featuring works from resident choreographer Penny Saunders; Artistic Director James Sofranko; Princess Grace Award winner Darrell Moultrie; Company dancers Yuka Oba-Muschiana, Gretchen Steimle, and Matthew Wenckowski; and the pas de deux from Christopher Stowell’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we think you’ll agree it’s better the second time around."

The Art of Dance- SECOND ACT PLUS SUBSCRIBERS ONLY
March 12 - April 10

"Grand Rapids Symphony‘s Pathwaves virtual concert series welcomes pianist Orli Shaham, whom the Chicago Tribune called “first-rate,” and Grand Rapids Ballet dancers who will be interpreting the music in a brand new piece of choreography, created specifically for this performance. Poulenc’s “choreographed concerto” for piano and 18 instruments is a masterwork conceived in the exciting musical whirlwind of late 1920s Paris. Enjoy this musical feast for both eyes and ears."

Collective Force
March 26-28

"The world’s most celebrated and in-demand choreographers—Penny Saunders, Danielle Rowe, Adam Hougland, Jennifer Archibald, Amy Seiwert Edwaard Liang, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, and Trey McIntyre—come together to stage their ballets and create new works, contributing to a performance that will truly be an immersive tour de force. In addition, Artistic Director James Sofranko will present an exciting new work featuring the music of Michigan-based cellist Jordan Hamilton. Don’t miss it!"

Jumpstart: On Film
April 30 - May 2

"Choreographed by the dancers of Grand Rapids Ballet, this innovative program will provide them the unique opportunity to explore a completely new layer of creativity and expression: filmmaking. We sincerely thank our season video partner, Salt Creative Production Studio, for their mentorship and guidance. This is going to be a program from us like you’ve never seen before—literally and figuratively."
