KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Sunday afternoon, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers informed Fox 17 that they responded to a call from the 1500-block of Roseland Ave in the Milwood Neighborhood on a report of a kitchen fire at 150 E. Crosstown Pkwy., Suite A.

The first arriving officers found heavy smoke coming from the house, and visible flames on the first floor. Officers initiated fire suppression efforts, and the fire was extinguished in less than a half hour.

Though the residents were able to escape with their dog, they notified officers that their pet cat was still inside. During the fire attack, a search team located and rescued the panicked cat.

The clamorous kitty was treated by paramedics on scene prior to being turned over to its owners. One of the residents was transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment for possible smoke inhalation. No officers were injured during this incident.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of this fire. Anyone having information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911.
