Teen arrested with gun near Union City High School

UNION CITY, Mich. — A 14-year-old boy was arrested Monday near Union City High School with a loaded gun.

Police said they were called after the student made threatening statements about two other students, which also prompted a lockdown.

Officers found the boy by the school’s bus garage with a loaded gun and took him into custody. Police say he denies making the threatening statement.

The school district sent this statement to parents:

Good Afternoon, By now you may be aware that this afternoon there was an incident involving a student that allegedly brought a weapon onto school property. Law Enforcement was immediately informed and the student was apprehended within minutes of the report. Student safety is always our first concern and we followed our lock down procedures. This is an active police investigation and we will share more information as it becomes available. Should you have any information please contact the Union City Police Department or one of our local administrators. Our counselors will be available tomorrow if any student needs additional support to help process this incident. Ronna Steel, Superintendent
