GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Westbound I-196 was closed for a time Wednesday morning in Grand Rapids after a pedestrian was struck.
The crash happened around 8:45 a.m. on westbound I-196 just west of Lake Michigan Drive.
Police say a Kent County Correctional Facility inmate was on a trash pick-up detail when he ran across the highway and was struck. The pedestrian suffered several broken bones but was in stable condition.
The driver also had some minor injuries.
